"Things You Didn't Know About Porn" Series on YouTube
Posted: August 3, 2010
Brain scientist researcher and journalist Marnia Robinson has created a three-part YOU Tube series entitled “Things You Didn’t Know About Porn.” The series is straightforward, engaging, and non-shaming. It treats today’s industry-driven, on-demand porn as a product, similar to junk food, which, while appealing and easy to get, can create serious health problems for consumers.
Recorded in England, this video slide presentation explains porn’s appeal and impact on the brain. It reveals how a steady reliance on porn can eventually harm self-esteem, damage interpersonal relationships, shape sexual interests in negative ways, and create a full-blown addiction. While the series is aimed at educating adolescent boys and their parents, adult men in recovery tell us it is helping them understand the negative impact of porn and what they now need to do to heal from it. Reuniting.info is a relationship-based, sex-positive site that maintains a popular forum for men who are incorporating a “brain repair” focus in their recovery from porn addiction.

Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy praises "The Porn Trap"
Posted: October 1, 2009
In the May 2009 issue of the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, Dr. Jeanne Shaw presents a detailed review of The Porn Trap. She says that as a seasoned therapist it’s rare to find a book that changes her perspective on a sexual topic, but that’s just what The Porn Trap did. Dr. Shaw describes The Porn Trap as “a guide developed specifically for people whose porn use is spiraling out of control, who want to stop their destructive behaviors and avoid serious consequences and losses. The book provides an opportunity for porn users and their partners to become aware of risks and negative impacts. It focuses on rebuilding self-respect, achieving recovery, improving intimacy, and developing a satisfying sexual relationship without porn. This book is written in a nonjudgmental, compassionate way, making it valuable for therapists and patients, alike. Conversational writing style and progressive organization allows for easy reading and understanding of a dichotomized and controversial topic.” Dr. Shaw concludes her review saying “The Porn Trap lets people who have run into problems with porn use know that their problems are understandable and they are not alone. It also shows the way to healing so they can separate themselves from porn, reclaim their sexuality, and enjoy self-pleasuring and partner sex in ways that are ultimately more rewarding and life-affirming than what porn has tooffer.” The full review can be obtained through Informaworld http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all~content=a910358330 Informaworld
“The Porn Trap” praised on Quranclub.net
Posted: September 13, 2009
One of our goals in writing “The Porn Trap” was to create a book that appeals to people of many religions as well as to those with a secular perspective. Thus, we have been delighted that The Porn Trap has received positive recommendations from a wide variety of readers, including Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Agnostics, and, most recently, Muslims. In a review on Quranclub.net, a site devoted to improving the lives of people of the Islamic faith, writer Ikram Kurdi praises the The Porn Trap as bringing hope and recovery to users of pornography. He states, “This book is the closest thing we can get to Islamic pornography counseling and recovery. Addiction to pornography is a problem that a lot of people have and unfortunately, Muslims are not immune from it. Pornography is highly addictive and easily available. And contrary to popular belief, marriage doesn't solve the problem. What are the real problems that pornography creates? Why should you NOT look at porn? How do you heal yourself from this disease? How do you help someone else heal? The knowledge and guidance in The Porn Trap, The Essential Guide to Overcoming Problems Caused by Pornography can save you, or your loved ones, from a lifetime of pain and an undesirable afterlife.”

Newsweek On-line Article -- Porn as a Prescription?
Posted: May 31, 2009
In a May 20, 2009 NEWSWEEK web exclusive "Rx vs. XXX" journalist Tony Dokoupil examines the pros and cons of using a testosterone supplement to treat problems with low testosterone in men. At issue are whether "Low-T" is a real and significant problem, and whether the potential negative side-effects of medication such as sweating, unseemly hair, an unexplained penis disorder, and breast growth would discourage this type of treatment. Dokoupil also explores a suggestion that regularly watching porn could be used as better alternative for increasing the level of testosterone. He quotes Wendy Maltz, coauthor of The Porn Trap, in sharing that using pornography is not a good idea because it carries serious psychological, physical, and relationship risks, as well. Wendy Keynotes a Conference on the Harmful Effects of Porn
Posted: April 25, 2009
Wendy was the keynote speaker today for a large conference in Salt Lake City on Protecting Children and Families from the Harmful Effects of Pornography sponsored by the Utah Coalition Against Pornography. Her presentation focused on how early exposure to and compulsive use of pornography can influence sexual development and expression in ways that harm an individual's ability to experience deeply satisfying love-based sexuality. Wendy also presented ways parents can reduce the likelihood that their child will develop a problem with porn that include validating a child's curiosity about sex, providing age-appropriate sex information and sex education, maintaining a calm, non-shaming attitude about exposure to porn, maintaining an emotionally real and caring relationship with your child, maintaining a porn-free home environment, modeling human empathy and respect, and educating children about the potential problems caused by pornography. The 800 participants at the conference included educators, clergy, and mental health professionals, as well as the public.
