Wendy Keynotes a Conference on the Harmful Effects of Porn
Posted: April 25, 2009
Wendy was the keynote speaker today for a large conference in Salt Lake City on Protecting Children and Families from the Harmful Effects of Pornography sponsored by the Utah Coalition Against Pornography. Her presentation focused on how early exposure to and compulsive use of pornography can influence sexual development and expression in ways that harm an individual's ability to experience deeply satisfying love-based sexuality. Wendy also presented ways parents can reduce the likelihood that their child will develop a problem with porn that include validating a child's curiosity about sex, providing age-appropriate sex information and sex education, maintaining a calm, non-shaming attitude about exposure to porn, maintaining an emotionally real and caring relationship with your child, maintaining a porn-free home environment, modeling human empathy and respect, and educating children about the potential problems caused by pornography. The 800 participants at the conference included educators, clergy, and mental health professionals, as well as the public.
