Need to Educate Kids About Pornography – Schwartz article
Canadian journalist, Daniel Schwartz, discusses the rising need for parents and teachers to educate children about pornography in his article, “Pornography, kids, and sex education: what to do?” published online with CBC news. The article reveals how increasing numbers of children are viewing porn and turning to it for sex education. Several studies are sited revealing concerns teens have about the impact of porn on their understanding of sex, sexual relationships and intimacy. Wendy Maltz LCSW DST was interviewed for the article and she talked about the sexual conditioning that occurs with porn when it is coupled with arousal, and porn’s negative impact on sexual development and intimacy learning. The Porn Trap was mentioned.

Wendy Receives the SASH Carnes Award
Wendy Maltz, LCSW, DST, received the prestigious Carnes Award from the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health for “her outstanding work in the field of sexual addiction.” Dr. Patrick Carnes presented the award on October 25, 2014 at the SASH National Conference in Portland, Oregon.
Carnes described Wendy as a pioneer who “was one of the first of all of us to really see the significance of cybersex and its impact on sexual health.” He praised her for helping to bridge various sexual health and treatment communities with the sex addict recovery communities, and for her enduring commitment to “making sex not only safe, but fun.”

Larry and I are pleased to report that our book “The Porn Trap: The Essential Guide to Overcoming Problems Caused by Pornography” 跳出色情陷阱 is now available in an open (ie. unadulterated) Chinese translation. We want to thank Carmen Song, the amazing translator, and Law Press of China for recognizing the need for a resource to help the growing numbers of young people in China who are reporting problems caused by porn.

Wendy Speaker at SAA Spring Mtg 5-3-14 in PD
Wendy Maltz LCSW, DST, coauthor of The Porn Trap, is the featured speaker for the Portland Sex Addicts Anonymous (SAA) Spring Speaker meeting at the First United Methodist Church in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014. The doors open at 11:00. Wendy will begin with a talk on “The Hidden Power of Pornography: Why Porn Can Be Harmful and What It Takes to Break Free from It” from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. In the afternoon Wendy will present a workshop from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on “Rebuilding Trust, Intimacy, and Sexual Pleasure in a Couples Relationship”. Wendy Teaching Sex Counseling & Therapy at U Oregon
2014 marks the 3rd year that Wendy Maltz LCSW, DST is teaching a Spring term graduate level course entitled, “Human Sexuality in Counseling” for the Couples & Family Therapy Program in the College of Education at the University of Oregon. Doctoral students from Counseling Psychology program also enroll. This dynamic, information rich course provides an overview of a wide range of sexuality concerns and how they can impact individuals and relationships. Wendy presents a plethora of treatment strategies and techniques to help mental health professionals effectively address sexual problems and related issues. This popular class honors cultural and sexual diversity, promotes concepts of sexual health, ethics, and safety, and is geared to helping practitioners develop comfort and confidence in discussing sexual concerns. This course is currently full for this term.
