Hosted by Neil Sattin, his podcast is devoted to helping couples improve their relationship and have good sex lives. Wendy’s interview, “Deeper Intimacy Through Sexual Healing,” is pretty comprehensive, covering topics such as: What is sexual abuse and what are the sexual problems it can cause?, What is involved in healing sexual concerns, How to work as a team in sexual healing, and What are the key exercises that can help survivors and their intimate partners reclaim a healthy and enjoyable sexuality. Wendy to Keynote SASH Conference – Philly 10/9/15

Wendy Maltz will present a keynote lecture, “Let’s Talk About Sex: Sexual Nature, Harm, and Healing,” at the SASH conference on Friday October 9, 2015 at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia. She plans to take the audience on a dynamic visual and story-telling journey to better understand what human sexuality is and how problems, such as sexual addiction, degrading pornography, and the experience of sexual abuse, interrelate and can reinforce one another. Wendy will identify key features of healthy sexual development and illuminate the power behind healthy sex principles and healing strategies. SASH stands for The Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health.  Last year Wendy received the SASH Carnes Award for her decades of work in the sexual recovery field and with the award comes this invitation to present.

Treating Military Sexual Trauma — New Book!

Psychologist Lori S. Katz has just released an excellent and much-needed book,“Treating Military Sexual Trauma” (Springer Publishing, 2015). It features a chapter on healthy sexual functioning after military sexual trauma (MST) based on an interview Lori did with Wendy Maltz LCSW, DST.  The book addresses many aspects of recovery and covers topics such as understanding MST, neurobiology, sleep disorders, substance abuse recovery, body memories, cognitive processes, and the application of various counseling techniques for addressing the concerns of MST survivors. Kudos to Lori for creating such a comprehensive resource!

“What Sex After Sex Abuse Is Really Like” article

Writer Tracy Clark-Flory provides readers a close look into the after-effects of sexual assault in a new article, “What Sex After Sexual Assault Is Really Like,” in the online magazine Refinery29. The piece features expert advice from sex therapist Wendy Maltz LCSW DST, and mentions, The Sexual Healing Journey: A Guide for Survivors of Sexual Abuse as a resource. Clark-Flory also discusses the wisdom of Wendy’s “relearning touch” exercises and the importance of moving slowly back into being sexual when recovering from this type of trauma. Wendy Receives the SASH Carnes Award

Wendy Maltz, LCSW, DST, received the prestigious Carnes Award from the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health for “her outstanding work in the field of sexual addiction.” Dr. Patrick Carnes presented the award on October 25, 2014 at the SASH National Conference in Portland, Oregon.

Carnes described Wendy as a pioneer who “was one of the first of all of us to really see the significance of cybersex and its impact on sexual health.” He praised her for helping to bridge various sexual health and treatment communities with the sex addict recovery communities, and for her enduring commitment to “making sex not only safe, but fun.”

Pandora’s Project Q & A on Sexual Healing Part 2 – June ’13

Wendy Maltz continues to answer tough questions about sexual healing in Part 2of an article published in the Pandora’s Project June 2013 newsletter. The questions cover topics such as self-worth, disclosing to a partner for the first time, dating, and dealing with an impatient partner.  Specific ideas are shared that can be found in Wendy’s book, The Sexual Healing Journey.

Pandora’s Project is a nationally-acclaimed nonprofit organization dedicated to providing information, support, and resources to survivors of rape and sexual abuse and their friends and family. They have been devoted to recovery and healing since 1999.

The questions Wendy answers in the newsletter came from members of their  online support group, Pandora’s Aquarium. Survivors involved in the project know that connecting with other rape and sexual abuse survivors is an important part of healing. Their online support group includes a message board, chat room, and blogs. It is free to join and is safely moderated by a diverse group of survivors.

Sexual & Relationship Therapy Reviews “The Sexual Healing Journey”

The Sexual Healing Journey (3rd edition) has received a marvelous book review by Talli Y. Rosenbaum, in the recently released October 2012 issue of the professional journal “Sexual and Relationship Therapy.”

Rosenbaum, describes The Sexual Healing Journey as “comprehensive and easy to read” and shares that it is written in a manner that speaks directly to patients as well as clinicians. Talli goes on to point out that the book is “written with such warmth and understanding that the value of the empathic and non-judgmental therapeutic alliance is healing to the reader. Wendy Maltz….guides her readers through the process of understanding what has been lost, grieving it, reclaiming it and establishing a new reality.”  Talli concludes by saying that she finds the therapeutic approach in The Sexual Healing Journey to be “validating and relevant to many couples seeking sex therapy.”

The Sexual Healing Journey Book Trailer Is Now Up!

Many thanks to filmmaker Rob Bohannon and friends for creating this new book trailer for The Sexual Healing Journey: A Guide for Survivors of Sexual Abuse (William Morrow, 2012, 3rd edition). In it I describe how I came to write the book and outline the comprehensive approach to sexual healing it provides. The book trailer includes pictures of the “relearning touch” exercises from the book, quotes from survivors, plus gorgeous shots of the Willamette River in Eugene, Oregon.
